What is a Police K-9?

Single Purpose K9

In addition to traditional Police K9s, many departments now utilize Professional Therapy
Dogs—often referred to as comfort dogs—to support both officers and the communities they
serve.


Unlike patrol or detection K9s, these dogs are not used for enforcement. Instead, they are

specially trained to provide emotional support, stress relief, and trauma response in high-
pressure environments.
