Working dogs are more than companions—they are highly trained professionals that:

• Save lives

• Enhance independence

• Provide critical emotional support

• Strengthen communities

Each type of working dog plays a unique role, but all share one common goal: to serve and  support alongside their human partners.

Why Working Dogs Matter — And Why We  Support Them

Working dogs are not just animals, they are highly trained partners who serve alongside  humans in some of the most demanding and meaningful roles in our communities. From law  enforcement and first responders to individuals living with disabilities, these dogs provide  support that cannot be replaced by technology or equipment alone.

They save lives, protect communities, and create independence

Police K9s stand on the front lines, helping officers safely resolve dangerous situations. Service  dogs give individuals the ability to live fuller, more independent lives by performing daily tasks  many people take for granted. Professional therapy dogs step into moments of crisis, stress, and  trauma—bringing calm, connection, and emotional relief when it is needed most.

Despite their impact, many of these working dogs and their handlers face significant challenges.

The Reality Behind the Work

Training, maintaining, and deploying a working dog requires:

• Extensive professional training and certification

• Ongoing skill development and evaluation

• Specialized equipment and safety gear

• Veterinary care and long-term health support

For many departments, handlers, and families, these costs can be overwhelming—especially for  smaller agencies or individuals without access to large fundraising resources.

Why Dogs On Duty Exists

Dogs On Duty (DOD) was created to stand in that gap.

Our mission goes beyond simply recognizing the value of working dogs—we are committed to  actively supporting them and the people who rely on them

We do this in two critical ways:

1. Providing Tools & Resources

We help ensure working dogs and their handlers have what they need to succeed safely and  effectively by providing:

• Training equipment

• Safety and working gear

• Financial assistance during times of need

• Support for ongoing training and development

Because when a working dog is properly equipped and trained, they can perform their job at  the highest level—and everyone benefits

2. Training & Placement of Working Dogs

At Dogs On Duty, we also believe that access to a trained working dog should not be out of  reach.

We are committed to:

Training high-quality working dogs across multiple disciplines

Placing service dogs with individuals in need

Supporting law enforcement and agencies with therapy and working K9s Ensuring each dog is matched with the right handler and purpose

Placement is more than just providing a dog—it’s about creating a lasting, functional  partnership that improves lives and strengthens communities.

Our Commitment

Every working dog represents:

• Countless hours of training

• A dedicated handler or family

• A mission that directly impacts others

At Dogs On Duty, we believe these dogs deserve support, recognition, and opportunity at  every stage of their journey.

Because when we invest in working dogs, we are ultimately investing in:

• Safer communities

• Stronger partnerships

• Greater independence for those in need

More Than Dogs — They Are Partners in Purpose

Dogs On Duty is proud to stand behind these incredible animals—not just by providing tools, but  by helping place, train, and support the next generation of working dogs

Together, we are building a future where every working dog has the opportunity to succeed— and every person who needs one has access to the life-changing support they provide.
